Body boarding is a great introduction to surfing for amateurs or kids. It's a fun activity to learn on a family vacation or practiced on a beach near you. Body boarding is a fairly inexpensive sport to get involved in and a great outdoor activity to spark the whole family's interest in exercising.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide how you would like to learn to body board, individually or with your family, and whether you'd like to take a class on the beach or private lessons for your family only.

  2. Step 2

Explore where you would like to take body boarding lessons. They are available in Florida, Hawaii, California and England. You want to consider when you will be at your destination, including time of year, days of the week, and times of day you are available for lessons.

  3. Step 3

Contact companies offering body boarding lessons at the destination you will be visiting. If it is one of the top four listed above, there should be many choices. You want to ask when they are available during the times you will be there, what their rates are, what they provide for the lesson, if you need to bring anything specific to the lesson, if they teach children and any other information they can provide to you.

  4. Step 4

Make it a girl's lesson. There is a company in Oahu, Hawaii that only employs women instructors and offers a more womanly approach to learning to body board. This is also a great approach for teaching small children how to body board.
