Things You'll Need:
- Glue
- Baking soda
- Blow dryer
- Spray hair coloring
- Shampoo
- Egg whites
-
Step 1
Start with clean, conditioned hair. Dye or spray it with a coloring agent first if you desire, then decide how high you want the spikes to be. Most punk rockers and ravers like spikes three or four inches high.
-
Step 2
Divide your hair into the preferred number of spikes. Most people have five or six spikes. Pull up the sections one at a time and apply glue, gelatin, egg whites or a special firm hold styling gel, starting at the base of the section.
-
Step 3
Follow the procedure in Step 2 for each section. Each spike should be about three or four inches high. When finished, use a spray on coloring agent of you desire.
-
Step 4
Allow the stiffening agent to dry. This may take up to half an hour, and require that you hang your head upside down if you've applied a lot of gelatin or glue. You can use a blow dryer instead, but that will dry the hair out more than doing it the natural way.
-
Step 5
Remove the glue or styling products when you're ready to let your spikes down. Douse your hair with warm water. Pour baking soda into your hands, then rub each spike until it's covered. Rinse and repeat until your hair comes clean. Shampoo and condition as usual.
