When actress Katie Holmes shed her long tresses in favor of a short, stylish bob, her entire persona seemed to transform. Mrs. Tom Cruise morphed from a cute woman into a sophisticated one. The bob, one of the most versatile hairstyles, can make you more glamorous, too.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide which version of Katie's bob works for you. Try an angular bob to add shape to your hair with an even cut that's angled a bit. Wear it with bangs for a vampish, silent film star look. A simple tomboyish bob will give you a tousled, playful look.

  2. Step 2

Find a good stylist. All hairdressers know how to cut a bob, so you don't need to go to a fancy salon to get it done. Bring a photo of the Katie Holmes bob cut you want to the stylist.

  3. Step 3

Ask for a graduated bob. Katie's hair retains a classic, simple look. Her friend, Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham, has a bob with an extreme look that's more suitable for clubgoers and show biz types.

  4. Step 4

Care for your bob with volumizing products. Use bodybuilding shampoos and conditioners or light reflecting products to add bounce and shine and make the hair appear thicker.

  5. Step 5

Blow dry your hair after washing. Take a large hairbrush and flip the edges under, or use a curling iron if your hair is bone straight. This will add bounce and give the hair shape between salon visits. While you may not have Katie Holmes' fame, you can have her hairstyle with a little effort.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid the bob cut if you have a weak chin, as the bob will accentuate it.
