If you are skilled enough to maneuver a kayak, then you have sufficient skill to make a storage rack for your boat. It is important to protect your kayak by keeping it off the ground. Don't spend hundreds to buy a rack. You can build your own for less than $20.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Measure the kayak's length and width so that you know how high to install the rack and how close together to place the two ladder racks.

  2. Step 2

Use a box cutter to cut the foam noodle into equal halves. Then cut through 1 side of each noodle piece so that the center is exposed, and you can open the noodle.

  3. Step 3

Put each noodle half on 1 piece of the ladder storage rack. Manipulate the noodle so that it conforms to the shape of the rack and has a snug fit. Face the open section of the noodle down so that no metal parts touch your kayak.

  4. Step 4

Use tape to secure the noodles to the ladder hangers. Wrap tape around each end and at the bend in the hanger. Wrap the entire noodle in tape if you desire.

  5. Step 5

Add approximately 1 foot to length measurement of your kayak. Measure and mark this length on the wall so that you know where to hang the rack.

  6. Step 6

Install the racks on the wall making sure that the screws are inserted into studs. Pre-drill holes for the screws if you can not sink them.

  7. Step 7

Test the rack to make sure it is securely installed. Hang your kayak on the rack.
