Installing a timer on an automatic drip sprinkler system is the best way to improve your water usage. A drip irrigation system allows garden plants to receive the right amount of water right to the root system. This produces healthier plants and cuts down on overall water consumption.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Locate the battery compartment on your drip irrigation timer before connecting it to the system. Install the required size and amount of batteries and secure the door.

  2. Step 2

Attach the faucet joint adapter to the end of the faucet and turn counterclockwise until tight. Do not over tighten or use a wrench; hand-tighten only.

  3. Step 3

Connect the irrigation system to the outlet at the base of the timer and hand-tighten.

  4. Step 4

Open the top cover of the timer and set the time selector to the appropriate irrigation duration.

  5. Step 5

Set the cycle time selector to the time of day you wish to water your plants. Refer to a gardening guide for advice on appropriate watering times for different garden plants.

  6. Step 6

Press the start switch and close the timer cover. The timer is now set to come on and will begin watering at the set cycle time.

Tips & Warnings
  • When changing the batteries on your drip irrigation timer, make sure the battery compartment stays dry.
  • Replace the batteries based on manufacturer's recommendation to ensure your irrigation system is running at an optimal level.
  • For more freedom from drip system irrigation issues, consider installing an electric timer. Consult your garden supply center or landscaping contractor for more information.
