How to Use Solar Pool Covers
A solar pool cover can extend your swimming season without much added cost. With proper use, it can raise the temperature of your pool by up to 15 degrees. These covers look like huge sheets of bubble wrap that are spread over the surface of a pool to hold the heat in and prevent evaporation on those cool summer nights. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Purchase the desired solar pool cover. Covers vary in shape and size to fit all types of pools, both in-ground and above-ground. They also vary in thickness, with thinner covers costing less but not lasting as long and thicker covers costing more but lasting longer.
-
2
Place the cover directly on the water whenever your pool is not in use. During a sunny day the bubbles in the cover hold heat from the sun, which keeps the pool water warm. During the night the cover holds the heat in by preventing water from evaporating.

Remove the cover completely before swimming. The solar cover clings to the surface and could trap a swimmer under water if not completely removed. Simply pull the cover off and fold it for storage. An easier way to remove it is to purchase a solar pool cover reel. Place the reel at one end of the pool and roll the cover up neatly by turning the handle at one end of the reel. Then move the reel off to the side until you want to put the cover back on the pool.

The bubbles go face down into the water. The air in the bubble part heats up and then transfers the heat to the water. The more surface area in contact with the water, then the faster the water will heat up. -

Do the bubbles face up or down?
