Golf is a popular, challenging sport that requires patience and determination. Practice, coupled with the proper equipment, can help mature a person's golf game. Learn how to prepare for and play nine holes of golf to avoid frustration and find success.

  1. Step 1

    Choose a golf course appropriate for your experience. Golf courses vary in difficulty. Call local golf courses before committing to a course to see what challenge the course offers.

  2. Step 2

    Set a tee time at the golf course of your choice. A tee time ensures your spot and gives you an official starting time.

  3. Step 3

    Dedicate two to three hours to play nine holes of golf. The amount of time depends on your skill level, the season and time of day you're playing and the number of people in your party.

  4. Step 4

    Prepare the proper equipment to play golf. Clean golf clubs a suitable putter, iron and chipping wedge are essential, as is a golf glove for your dominate hand for a good grip. Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing that allows free movement and shoes that aren't slippery on a grassy surface. Carry plenty of balls, especially if you are a beginner.
