How to Place a Bet at Belmont Park

The Belmont Stakes is not named after the horse, rather it is named after August Belmont. Mr. Belmont was a financier who was popular in New York City politics. He loved and was involved so much in horse racing that the Belmont Stakes is his namesake. Enjoy a day at the races in a park named for its enthusiast--and place a bet while you're there!

Things You'll Need:

• Daily race form
• Floor plan of Belmont Park
• Money

1. Make a reservation to sit in a private box on the 4th floor for the full race experience. Pick your winner. Go to the window and place a bet with the horse's number, not its name. Belmont Park has a beginner's window.

2. Decide your wager. The easiest bet is cash on a show placement. Go to the second floor and place your bet behind the public seating area.

3. Determine the amount of money you want to wager. Bets for $2 are very common.

4. Go to the window and place your bet. The ticket booth is on the second floor by the restrooms. You can receive instructions at this window.

5. Communicate to the teller the track name and race number you want to bet on. At Belmont Park, there will be races from around the country you can watch and bet on.

6. Check your ticket when the teller hands it to you. Look at the wager, horse number and race number. You can watch the race on television at the Terrace Restaurant on the 2nd floor.

7. Watch the race via satellite or live through Belmont Park. Wherever you are, cheer on your horse and see if it wins.

Tips & Warnings

• Write a list of your wagers before you go to the window to bet. It is easy to get confused and forget your horse's number.
• Keep a record of your bets. Track horses that have won for you.
