Playing in a golf league provides a variety of benefits including exercise, networking and the sheer pleasure of the game. Golfing in a league does differ from the casual Saturday golf game. Know what to expect and enjoy the experience.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Prepare to play regularly. Most golf leagues play weekly and you need to be prepared to make that time and financial commitment. You should also obtain a copy of the rules of play and read them. If you have questions or concerns, ask your league director.
Step2
Understand the scoring and handicapping used in your league. In general, you'll play two member teams against other two member teams and each team's handicap will be adjusted based upon the final score. The new handicap will be in effect the following week.
Step3
Ask about any bonuses, such as low-score payouts or best-shot bonuses. Some leagues have this in place while others don't. If your league does have it in play, you'll be expected to contribute to that jackpot each time you play.
Step4
Bring your own equipment. League players provide all of their own clubs, shoes and so forth. In addition, you'll want cash for tips and refreshments, if these are available where you golf.

Tips & Warnings

  • Golf leagues can differ greatly from region to region. Reading and understanding the rules is the best way to avoid confusion and misunderstandings.
