Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Citrus undertone white wine
- Light fruity merlot wine
- Sweet wine
Step1
Decide on the food menu and then pair appropriate wines with each course. Summer food is typically lighter than other seasons so take care to choose light wines that complement the menu.
Step2
Choose a wine with a definite citrus undertone to serve with the seafood or fish course. A summer wedding lends itself to a light course such as shrimp cocktail and a crisp sauvignon blanc would be a good selection. The same wine would do well served with a Chilean Sea Bass or Halibut entree.
Step3
Serve a mellow but fruity red wine if you are having a little heavier entree. South Africa and Australia produce some delicious varieties of merlot that are still light and crisp enough to select for a summer wedding wine.
Step4
Select a white wine with just a bit more sugar than usual to serve with the wedding cake at a summer wedding. Champagne is often served with the cake but tends to taste bitter against the sweetness of the cake. A good example would be "Rossa Regale," a wine with a lovely pink color and a sweetness that is a good selection for a summer wedding.
