Step 1
Pick a honeymoon destination during its off season. The Caribbean in the summer, Hawaii in May, South America and Australia in the summer and Europe and Napa Valley in the winter are prime examples. You'll still see the historical monuments or beautiful beaches at your dream spot, no matter what time of year you visit. Keep in mind that mid-week hotel rates are usually cheaper than weekend rates.
-
Step 2
Book a package that includes airfare, a hotel room and a rental car. By combining these three categories, you can often rack up substantial savings. The best place to find a package is usually through a consolidator's website. See Resources below for more information. Individual hotel websites may also offer packages.
-
Step 3
Cash in frequent flyer miles or frequent hotel guest points (or both). Even if you do not have enough points to pay for both flights and all nights at the hotel, perhaps you can get at least one flight and a couple of nights of free accommodations.
-
Step 4
Network among coworkers, friends and acquaintances to unearth discount condominium, timeshare or vacation home rentals.
-
Step 5
Consider a home exchange honeymoon. For a minimal fee, you can become a member of a home sharing website. By communicating with other vacation-seekers in your dream destination, you can switch homes for a week or more and pay absolutely nothing for your lodgings. See Resources below for more information.

Step 6
Cut corners on unimportant matters. You may not mind flying coach all the way to Bora Bora if it means that you can afford that fantastic over-the-water bungalow.
