On June 24, 1947, Idaho pilot Ken Arnold spotted a group of unidentified flying objects over Mt. Rainier, Wash., sparking worldwide speculation of government cover-ups and fear of extraterrestrial invasion. To mark the occasion of this first reported UFO sighting, June 24 is known as World UFO Day. Here's what to do if you want to throw your own UFO party.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Invite friends and family to get together to watch the sky. The purpose of UFO Day is to organize a worldwide UFO watch, keeping millions of eyes on the sky on the same night. Familiarize yourself with the night sky beforehand, so you'll know what to look for.

  2. Step 2

Make t-shirts for your guests that say "I Want to Believe."

  3. Step 3

Put neon green chem lights in the punch bowl and tell everyone it's alien juice. Use a clear (not red) punch recipe.

  4. Step 4

Launch helium balloons with messages of peace for aliens in a symbolic gesture of friendship. Attach your thoughts on extraterrestrials and the cosmos in general.

  5. Step 5

Honor the memory of Carl Sagan by buying and watching the movie "Contact."

Tips & Warnings
  • If you miss the first date, you can celebrate the alternate UFO day on July 2, the date of the Roswell Incident. On this date, also in 1947, a rancher in Roswell, N.M. found a strange metal object on his property. Military officials originally labeled the material as "unidentified," and later rescinded it. The main objective of this UFO day is to raise awareness of government cover-ups concerning UFOs and alien abductions.
  • The stronger the punch, the higher you risk of seeing unidentifiable flying objects.
