A scenic bike ride is a great deal of fun as long as you plan ahead for the trip. Taking a few simple steps to plan for the trip allows you to get the most out of the bike ride.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Check the air pressure in your tires. There is nothing worse than getting to a trail and finding that your tires are flat. Bring a pump and patch kit to make sure that you can repair your tires quickly and temporarily while on the trail.
Step2
Know where you are going. Get a trail map and keep it with you during your ride. For more in-depth trails, bring a compass and GPS units as well.
Step3
Bring plenty of snacks and water. Being hungry and thirsty can ruin your day so plan ahead by bring food and water. Do not depend on trails to have snack shops, restaurants or drinkable water nearby since many do not.
Step4
Think about safety. Wear protective gear such as a helmet, pads and gloves that can protect you from scraps if you fall.
Step5
Check the weather and dress appropriately. The weather is going to influence your ride. Make sure the weather conditions are good and dress so that you will be comfortable the entire ride. Bring extra clothing that you might need. For colder months, also bring a small space blanket in case you have to stop to repair your bike.
Step6
Pack a First Aid kit for your ride. If you or one of your party members takes a nasty fall, be prepared with a First Aid kit. Another good measure is to bring a cell phone with you.
Step7
Find a comfortable backpack. You are going to be taking quite a few items with you so take a comfortable backpack to store them.
Step8
Bring a small camera for photo opportunities. Many people take scenic rides and regret not taking a small camera. Take one that is not too heavy since you will be riding around with it.
