Dual screen laptops can be handy for those who need space to do one particular task on one screen and another task on a second screen. Dual screen laptops are shaped like standard laptop computers with the exception that the keyboard is placed lower on the laptop, so a second screen can be placed above it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine what you are using your dual screen laptop for. It's important to decide what each of the monitors will typically be doing, so you can make sure you buy the right software and hardware for your dual screen laptop.

  2. Step 2

Buy a dual screen laptop with enough RAM memory for your projects. A dual screen laptop uses nearly twice the amount of memory of standard laptops, because you're using two screens. A good rule of thumb is to make sure your dual screen laptop has at least 1024mb of RAM.

  3. Step 3

Look at the size of the laptop. Dual screen laptops are thicker than standard laptop computers because of added screen equipment. Expect your dual screen laptop to be heavier and a tad larger than other laptops. If size is a primary consideration, expect to pay a considerable amount more for your product.

  4. Step 4

Decide how rugged you need your dual screen laptop to be. You want to protect your investment and you need to decide how much moving around you'll do with the equipment and under what types of conditions it will be used. If you are using your dual screen laptop computer at construction sites or under extreme conditions, choose one that has a rugged metal shell to protect your sensitive double screens.

  5. Step 5

Be prepared to pay a pretty penny for the extra screen. Because dual screen laptop computers are fairly new to the computer market, they are expensive, running in the thousands of dollars. If they catch on and become popular, the prices may come down in the future.
