Photoshop is a convenient and fun way to tidy up, brighten or sharpen digital photographs. One especially common problem is the murkiness or blurriness of color in a photo. To preserve spot colors in Photoshop's sixth version and other higher versions can be done by utilizing the Quark desktop publishing program.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Navigate to the "Channels" palette through the "Window" option. Drag the preferred color into the New Channel symbol. Choose the "CMYK" (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) icon if you want to see the image with the new color changes.

  2. Step 2

Click twice on the new color channel. This will open the "Channel Options" menus. Select Spot Color plus make its solidity one hundred percent.

  3. Step 3

Select the red square labeled "Color." This will take you to a "Color Picker" menu.

  4. Step 4

Choose the "Custom Colors" option to choose the types of colors you want to apply. This will change the title of your newly created spot channel. Then press OK.

  5. Step 5

Press on the "CMYK" thumbnail to see color changes as you first originally made them. Click this icon whenever you want to see the image in its original setting and with the new additions.

  6. Step 6

Preserve spot color in black and white photos as well as color ones by first loading and saving the image to Photoshop as a .tif file. This file is a scan and image format in which the spot color will be preserved.

  7. Step 7

Transfer the image to Quark, a page layout program for Windows and Mac where different aspects of an image can be added or removed.
