Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Smile. Say good morning. Nod your head. Show your approachability.
Step2
Make a remark about what the two of you are experiencing. If you are at work ask what they think about the current assignment. If you are at a bar, ask what they are drinking and if they like it.
Step3
Compliment the stranger. Find something you like about her. If you love her dress say, "I love your dress, where did you get it?" The conversation will take off from there by itself.
Step4
Introduce yourself. This works well in work situations or group activities. Say, "Hi, my name is John." Offer a handshake. Tell the person how long you have been working for this company.
Step5
Start your conversation by making eye contact with the stranger. Speak loud enough to be heard. Exude friendliness with a big smile.
Step6
Tell a funny story. Keep it brief. Share the highlights of the story. Act it out and make the stranger laugh with you.
Step7
Ask a question to start a conversation with a stranger. For example, if you are waiting for a store to open you can ask the stranger if they have the time or know what time the store should open.
