1
Visit your local library for books on transgender issues for children. Ask the librarian for assistance. If your library doesn't carry any of these books, the librarian may be able to transfer books about transgender issues from another library.
-
2
Read the stories about transgender issues with your child. Allow for questions and answer them to the best of your ability. If there is something that you don't know the answer to, tell them that you can investigate it together.

3
Role play transgender issues using dolls for younger children. Explain that transgender means that a person was born with their private parts, but their private anatomy doesn't match up with how they feel inside.
-
4
Explain to your child that just because someone may be transgender, they are still normal and feel all the emotions that anyone else may feel.
-
5
Ask your child what questions they may have. If they admit or you are suspicious that they may be transgender themselves, make a doctor's appointment for the child to further discuss this issue with a professional.
-
6
Encourage your older children or teenagers to attend a workshop or conference with you where this issue is discussed with people who are truly transgender themselves. Children may empathize with the transgender person if they see them face to face and allow for any fears or insecurities to transpire.
