Stampers are rubber stamps for use with handmade projects such as scrapbook pages, greeting cards, invitations and arts and crafts. When you buy stampers, you have a choice of wood, plastic or foam in sizes that vary from half an inch to several inches. If you decide to make stamping a hobby, you'll have plenty of company with online communities, blogs and offline clubs.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Research various types of stampers if you're new to the hobby. The types include image stamps, text-only stamps, tattoo stamps and stamping wheels. Learn which stampers work best with the craft projects you're interested in.

  2. Step 2

Consider the popular wood-mounted natural rubber stamps if you're a beginner to stamping art. The rubber soaks up ink nicely and gives the most detailed image of all types of stamps. You will need more room to store these than unmounted stamps, but they're great for making cards.

  3. Step 3

Buy unmounted rubber stampers to save money or if you're a more experienced stamper. These come singly or in sheets, trimmed or backed with a static-cling foam. You can mount and store them on either wood or acrylic blocks.

  4. Step 4

Use a high-quality stamp and place it on a clear acrylic mount. This helps you get good coverage with the ink and lets you see exactly where to stamp. It's especially helpful if you're just starting out and have only a few craft supplies.
