A pressurized filter removes ammonia from fish waste which can harm your koi by accumulating bacteria on the media that you place in it. The bacterium removes the ammonia creating a healthier environment and clearer water for your koi.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place the pressurized filter on a level, firm surface. The surface must not be more than 6 feet above the ground. Make sure that the pipes, connections and valves are easily accessible.

  2. Step 2

Pour the media in the filter. Cap the standpipe before you pour so the media doesn't enter it. Remove the cap.

  3. Step 3

Assemble the valve on the pressurized filter. Place the O-ring around the base of the valve. Insert the valve into the neck of the tank making sure that the center pipe goes in to the hole in the bottom of the valve.

  4. Step 4

Plumb the pressurized filter. Hook the unions to the valve, connect and glue the lines then seal it. Make certain to put the protector caps on the end of the screw.

  5. Step 5

Start up the pressurized filter. Push the control valve handle and turn it to the filter position. Look for leaks once the water is flowing steadily.

Tips & Warnings
  • You must monitor the ammonia and nitrate levels in your koi pond until the pressurized filter has had a chance to establish itself. This can take two to four weeks depending upon the amount of koi, temperature and rate of feed.
