How to Fill a Propane Tank With CO2

Some places allow you to fill your own propane tank as you would a gas tank. Many do not. There is usually a process of tank exchange when it is time to refill a propane tank. It is important that if you fill your own tank, you adhere to the safety guidelines posted on the side of the tank.

    Things You'll Need

    • CO2 refill tank
    • Propane tank

        Pull the hose from the fuel source to the main propane tank valve.

        Turn the pump on.

        Grip the vapor bleed valve and open it along with the main tank valve and the CO2 source valve.

        Establish a consistent procedure to turn on the valves. Consistency leads to safety.

        Check for liquid CO2 to spurt from the bleed valve. The tank is now full. Close all three valves immediately.

        Switch the handle of the pump to the off position.

      • 7

        Listen for an end to the gas and disconnect the other two lines. Render the fueling line free of any CO2-bleed the line if possible.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Store propane tanks outside and confined with a chain.

    • Store all CO2 and propane tanks in a vertical position.

    • Do not smoke or let anyone near you smoke.

    • The littlest spark can cause an explosion.
