Incense has been used since ancient times to heal, purify or change the atmosphere in some way. It's made from plants and herbs and is usually burned to produce an aroma. The 1960s Hippie Era led to its popularity and use in the West.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit a store that carries or specializes in incense in order to sample different incense aromas. Major cities have stores devoted exclusively to selling incense.

  2. Step 2

Find out what the different aromas are used for. Some aromas heal specific parts of the body, some purify the atmosphere of negative influences, and some just add a pleasant smell.

  3. Step 3

Decide what type of incense you'd like to buy. It's commonly available in sticks or cones, but can also be obtained in coils. Coils are often used in the Asian temples of East.

  4. Step 4

Buy an incense holder unless you have another device in which to burn the incense. A cone can be burned in a ceramic or metal bowl, while a stick needs to be propped up, usually be being stuck in a hole of some sort.

  5. Step 5

Purchase incense in the form of essential oils which can be added to water or your bath if the smoke from incense bothers you. You don't have to worry about starting a fire this way, and it's also a nice way to create an all-over body scent.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use incense during meditation to help induce altered states.
  • Burn sage in order to purify the atmosphere of unwanted spirits.

on 6/26/2008 I found that pretty good website offering good quality incense with a wide range of products but the best is that they are part of the "fair trade" organisation. Go and visit the website at www.encensdumonde.fr
