How to Buy Dumbbells

Dumbbells offer a great solution to getting a full-body workout at home without having to purchase large and expensive gym equipment. Stabilizing muscles are forced to work more effectively with dumbbells, and those who work out with weights are also at less risk for osteoporosis. Buying the right dumbbells depends on what you're looking to attain from your workout, whether it be increased muscle mass, strength or overall toning.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Research different types and styles of dumbbells to see which one would be more suited to the goals you're trying to reach.
Step2
Consider adjustable dumbbells if your goal is to increase your muscle mass. These dumbbells adjust somewhere in the range of 5 to 50 pounds. You'll be doing less repetitions, but with more weight to attain larger muscles.
Step3
Tone your muscles with dumbbells that are lighter in weight. Working out with lighter weights means you'll do more repetitions, but attain the tone to your muscles that you're looking for as well as increased strength.
Step4
Decide if buying one set of moderate weights will suffice as you begin your workout program geared toward toning. Purchasing one set will be less expensive, take up less space and you can change the number of repetitions you do for each muscle group to adequately work the muscles with that particular weight.
Step5
Choose between metal dumbbells or ones that are coated in vinyl or rubber. This is simply a matter of personal preference and won't have an affect on your workout or results.
