You can import text into Adobe InDesign that you create in Word or another software program. There are advantages to typing it into a word processing program first. You can spell check your work before you place it and have a better idea of how much room your text will take up.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Draw a text frame in your InDesign document by using the Rectangle or use one that already exists.
Step2
Click inside of the frame that you want your text to appear, using the "T" tool.
Step3
Choose "File" and then "Place" from the InDesign menu.
Step4
Locate your file by scrolling through the new box that appears.
Step5
Select the file and click open. The text will appear in the frame.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you see a red plus sign at the bottom of your text frame, not all of the text fit. You can click and drag the frame down if you have room. You can also draw another text frame, click on the red plus sign to "pick up" the rest of the text, and then click again in the new text frame to place the rest of the text.
  • It's best to leave indentations and spaces between paragraphs out when preparing text to import from a word processor.
