Drafting players in fantasy basketball is the beginning. If the draft is not done properly, it is also the end to a fantasy basketball season. One must do their homework and understand the nuances of their particular league to be a success. A key component to a championship team is the ability to draft a winning shooting guard.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Examine the rules for the fantasy basketball league. Some leagues have different scoring methods, while others have different rules on who the starters are and how many players are in reserve.

  2. Step 2

Analyze any off-season changes to the shooting guard's team. For example, if the team drafted or signed another shooting guard, this could mean a significant drop in the player's fantasy production from one season to the next.

  3. Step 3

Check each shooting guard's off-season activities. If a player got into trouble off the court, it can often mean less production on the court.

  4. Step 4

Evaluate each shooting guard's season schedule. Some divisions or conferences have better defensive teams that will make scoring fantasy points very difficult. Conversely, other divisions or conferences contain teams that stress scoring and are weaker defensively.

  5. Step 5

Consider what needs the fantasy basketball team has relative to the other positions on the team. Some teams need more scoring from their shooting guard, while others need more steals or assists from the position. A balanced fantasy basketball team is important. A fantasy basketball owner can sometimes pay too much attention to scoring and forget the other statistical categories.

  6. Step 6

Rank the fantasy basketball shooting guards based on the information in the steps above and draft a winning shooting guard.
