Step 1
Begin six lays from the end if you're using the crown knot to tie off strands on a rope. However, you can practice the crown knot with three different ropes or lines joined together at their ends.
-
Step 2
Pass one strand between the other two. It doesn't matter which strand you start with. Take the chosen strand and draw it between the other two strands. Pinch the strand down with your thumb so that it forms a loop that has the second strand inside of it.
-
Step 3
Fold the second strand down. Push the the second strand down so that it faces away from the loop created by the first strand. Pushing the second strand down holds the loop in place.
-
Step 4
Bring the third strand through. Without letting go of the second strand (so the loop remains intact) bring the end of the third strand through the loop created by the first strand. Pull the end down so it creates a tight knot.
-
Step 5
Tighten and even out the strands. Pull equally on each of the strands so you create a knot that is evenly tight on all sides. Roll the knot between your hands or on the ground to further tighten it.
