The anchor bend knot is an essential knot of sailing and boating. Whether you need to tie an anchor to a warp or quickly secure bumpers to rails before docking, the anchor bend is an excellent option.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wrap the line or rope around the object you're tying the anchor bend onto. You can tie the anchor bend onto another line, a carabiner or a ring.

  2. Step 2

Wrap again. After the second wrap around the terminating object you should have a full loop around that object, with the end of the line or rope hanging down.

  3. Step 3

Bring the end back around. Take the end of the rope and, starting on the same side of the loop, bring it behind the standing part of the rope or line.

  4. Step 4

Pull the end through the loops. In Step 3, you created a second loop around the terminating object. Pass the end of the rope through both of these loops.

  5. Step 5

Dress the knot. Use one hand to hold the standing part of the rope and use the other hand to tighten the knot by drawing it downward toward the terminating object. Give the rope a tug from the end and the standing part to make sure the anchor bend doesn't roll or unravel.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take an extra wrap around the terminating object to make a stronger knot that can support a heavier load.
