There are three categories of roller hockey penalties: minor, major and misconduct. Punishment for these penalties range from time spent in a penalty box to game suspension. Here are ways to spot the most heinous roller hockey infractions, the misconduct penalties.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Watch for spearing. Any player who uses either end of his hockey stick to jab another player is guilty of spearing.

  2. Step 2

Be wary of slashers. Swinging a hockey stick at another player rather than at the puck is considered slashing.

  3. Step 3

Note the instigator. Anyone who starts a fight during a game or joins in a fight started by someone else gets a misconduct penalty.

  4. Step 4

Observe a high sticking violation. When a hockey stick strikes a player above the waist and the strike is deemed intentional by the referee, it's high sticking. This also warrants a misconduct penalty.

  5. Step 5

Watch for flying feet. A referee can call a misconduct penalty on any player for even trying to kick an opposing player.

Tips & Warnings
  • Not all slashing penalties are considered misconduct. Slashing unintentionally or without malice is a minor or major penalty, not misconduct. Whereas slashing while involved in a disagreement with another player results in misconduct if the referee feels it's warranted.
