A day planner is a journal in which you can record your notes, appointments and to-do lists. It helps keep you organized and on task so you can spend your time thinking about the important things.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Make a choice between an electronic organizer and a paper page daily planner. Both of these tools have their own advantages, but their goals are to keep you organized.
Step2
Choose one planner that fits all the different components of your life. The best planner will take care of work, personal and home information and organize it into an easy-to-understand system.
Step3
Designate the main purpose of the daily planner. If you plan on keeping track of appointments and meetings, then you need to make sure that the calendar pages in the daily planner are large and easy to organize. If you are looking to keep many lists within your planner, then make sure that there are enough notes pages available within the planner.
Step4
Determine how detailed you want to be in your planner. If you want to write down hour-by-hour activities, then you need to look for a daily planner that has time slots for every hour. If you want a more general planner, then look for a planner that offers larger calendar days where you make general notes about the day.
Step5
Pay close attention to the size of the daily planner. If you choose a large daily planner, you will have plenty of room to write, but you may find that it's awkward to keep with you. A smaller daily planner will fit easily into a pocket or purse, but it doesn't have a lot of room for you to record your lists and commitments.
