Reading enhances children's focus while expanding their vocabulary and reasoning faculties. Books that your child can help to create and illustrate can make reading even more interesting for them. Follow these steps to make your child a personalized book using zip-lock bags.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Select the size of the book you'd like to make. Use larger zip-lock bags to make books with larger illustrations and a more detailed story. Use smaller zip-lock bags for short stories or simple picture books.
Step2
Lay all bags sideways, with the zip running vertically along the right side. Staple the bags together along the left side vertically, so you can access the pages, changing them as you desire.
Step3
Cut pieces of cardstock to the size of your bags. Consider using various colors of cardstock depending on the topic of your book.
Step4
Write or type your story on the cardstock. Allow your child to write or type the story if he's old enough.
Step5
Add pictures using your printer or glue on pictures using acid-free glue. Alternatively, allow your child to draw her own pictures or cut relevant pictures out of magazines or newspapers.
Step6
Laminate each piece of cardstock to protect the paper.
Step7
Insert each piece of laminated cardstock into its own zip-lock bag.

Tips & Warnings

  • Tie the bags together instead of using a stapler. Use a hole punch to insert three holes along the left side of the bag. Use yarn or string to attach the bags.
