A slide layout will apply certain characteristics to your slide, such as title placement, images, content and charts. Applying a slide layout to a slide in your OpenOffice Impress presentation reduces the time it takes to create a professional looking slide from scratch.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Start OpenOffice Impress and open an existing presentation you would like to edit.
Step2
Select the slide to apply the slide layout to by clicking the slide in the "Slides" pane on the left side of the screen. You can tell the slide is selected when it is outlined by a thick, dark line.
Step3
Click the word "Layouts" in the "Tasks" pane to display all the slide layout designs, if necessary.
Step4
Use your mouse to click the slide layout you wish to apply to the slide you selected from the "Slides" pane. You will see the new slide layout has been applied to the slide you have selected.
Step5
Continue editing and formatting your slides, using the slide layout as a guide. If you want to change the slide layout at any time, simply repeat the process as outlined above.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't see the "Slides" or "Tasks" panes, choose the "View" menu and click on "Slides" pane and "Tasks" pane so a check mark appears before the panes in the menu.
  • You can apply a slide layout to all the slides in your presentation by clicking anywhere on the "Slides" pane while holding down the "CTRL" and "A" key on your keyboard. This will select all the slides and apply any slide layout that you choose to all the slides at once.
