Excel has many functions that can complete calculations for you. Using the TANH function to find the tangents of numbers will simplify the process and save you time.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Enter a full number in a cell on the spreadsheet. For this example, enter the number 3 into cell A1.
Step2
Go to the cell you want the tangent to appear and type the following formula: =TANH(A1).
Step3
Click anywhere else on the spreadsheet. The tangent of the number 3 will appear in the cell where you typed the formula, which is 0.995054. To change the cell of the number whose tangent you need, change the formula in Step 2 to reflect the new cell definition.
Step4
Type in the TANH formula in the cells where you wish the tangents to be displayed. If the cells are adjoining, you can type the formula into the first cell and auto-fill the remaining cells by clicking the lower-left hand corner of the border and dragging the cursor until the range of cells is outlined. Let go of the mouse, and the cells will auto-fill with the correct formulas.
