Adding shapes to a PowerPoint presentation can produce a graphic representation of an idea in place of a picture. You also can use shapes to your advantage by adding text. Keep reading to find out how you can add text to PowerPoint shapes.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Start Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, and open a presentation that contains a shape to which you'd like to add text.
Step2
Select the shape by clicking on it with your mouse. You can tell the shape is selected, because it will be surrounded by sizing handles.
Step3
Right-click on the shape you have selected, and click on "Edit Text" from the shortcut menu. You will see a blinking cursor within your shape.
Step4
Type the text you want to add to the shape with your keyboard.
Step5
Click somewhere off the shape to deselect it when you are done typing the text.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can add a shape to PowerPoint by clicking the "Insert" tab and choosing the "Shapes" button in the "Illustrations" section. Insert the shape you want from the drop-down pane.
  • You can change the formatting of the text you have added by selecting the shape and the text you have added. Make changes to the formatting box near the text you have entered. You can change the font, font color, size, alignment and other elements.
