Blisters is a dice game for two or more players that was devised during a 2,000-mile hike on the Appalachian Trail. The premise of the game, is that you are "walking" 2,000 miles and hoping you don't get blisters.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Three different colored pairs of dice
  • Paper
  • Pen or pencil

    Rules

  1. Step 1

Roll the dice to determine who goes first. Highest roll leads off. The first player rolls all six dice.

  2. Step 2

Look at the dice to determine how many matches were rolled. Matches are by either matching color and number, or by matching number. Matches can be 2-of-a-kind up to 6-of-a-kind.

  3. Step 3

Roll unmatched dice if you rolled 3-of-a-kind or 5-of-a-kind to try to match those. If you rolled 2-of-a-kind, you can choose to either continue rolling the unmatched dice or end your turn.

  4. Step 4

Try again to see if you can score additional matching dice if you rolled 2-of-a-kind as Step 4. Once you roll and do not roll a match, your turn ends and this is called blisters. If you get blisters, then you lose the score gained during your turn.

  5. Step 5

Keep track of the color every time you roll a "6" throughout the game. Once you roll a "6" in every color, your turn ends and it's called "bailing out." You can also bail out by rolling all "6s" in one roll.

  6. Step 6

Take another turn if you roll the same number on all six dice. Keep the points from your first roll and add them to the points gained from the additional turn. However, if you roll six matching "6s" refer to Step 6.

  7. Scoring

  8. Step 1

Multiply dice that have matching numbers and colors by a factor of 10. For example if you roll two dice of the same color with the number "4" you would have a total of 40 points.

  9. Step 2

Add together dice that match numbers but not colors. For example, if you roll two dice with the number "4" you would add the two "4s" together for a point total of 8 points.

  10. Step 3

Score matching pairs of dice and different colored matching pairs of dice and add the two numbers together for a total score when both types of matches are made during one roll.

  11. Step 4

Earn no points for dice that do not match numbers.

  12. Step 5

Reach the goal score of 2,000 points to win. Once a player reaches 2,000 points, every other player has the option of one more turn to see if they can beat the high players' score. The player with the highest score wins.
