With decoupage, you glue paper cutouts to an object to create a new look or enhance the object's style. Use decoupage to make an old jewelry box fresh. The process is so simple, your children can assist in this project.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper images
  • Scissors or craft knife
  • Jewelry box
  • Pen or pencil
  • Small plate
  • Glue
  • Sponge paintbrush
  1. Step 1

Choose the pictures or designs you want on the jewelry box. Look through magazines, newspapers or your favorite website to find the perfect images.

  2. Step 2

Cut the pictures out, staying as close to the image's edges as possible. Use a craft knife for cutting small details out of the paper.

  3. Step 3

Lay the pictures out and decide where to put them on the box. Use a pen or pencil to mark the back of the paper and the place on the jewelry box where the paper will be. For example, mark a "1" on the back of the picture and a corresponding "1" on the place you want to put the picture on the box.

  4. Step 4

Pour a generous amount of glue onto the plate. Lay the sponge brush in the glue. This allows the sponge to soak up the right amount of glue.

  5. Step 5

Place a picture face up on the box in its numbered location. Paint the glue over the paper. Cover the entire picture and corners with the glue.

  6. Step 6

Smooth any wrinkles or bubbles in the paper before the glue dries.

  7. Step 7

Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for the remaining images.

  8. Step 8

Allow the jewelry box time to dry before using. Dry times vary depending on what type of glue you use.

Tips & Warnings
