The game of Atomic Chess is played just like traditional chess with a few variantions. In Atomic Chess, you blow up your opponent's pieces as well as your own in the process. Protect the king from explosions at all costs and don't be afraid to try kamikaze missions.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Chess set
  • 2 players
  1. Step 1

Move a playing piece first if you have the white pieces. All the chess pieces move in the same way for Atomic Chess as they do in traditional chess.

  2. Step 2

Capture you opponent's piece, which then will cause an "atomic explosion."

  3. Step 3

Remove the opponent's piece that you have captured, your piece that captured the opponent's piece and any pieces that are in the 8 squares surrounding the explosion square except for the pawns. The only pawns that can be lost in an explosion are a captured pawn or a capturing pawn.

  4. Step 4

Check the king if you can capture it directly with another piece. The "check" move applies in Atomic Chess as it does in traditional chess.

  5. Step 5

Explode the king if you take another piece and your opponent's king is killed in the explosion. You cannot make a move that explodes your own King in the process.

  6. Step 6

Win the game if you have captured or exploded your opponent's king.

Tips & Warnings
  • The king may not take another piece or cause an explosion in this game.
  • Use your pawns carefully to provide shelter for your other pieces.
  • In some variants of Atomic Chess, checking is not enforced at all.
