Things You'll Need:
- Glycerin soap base
- Double boiler
- Calamine lotion
- Liquid glycerine
- French white clay
- Vitamin E oil (optional)
- Essential oils (optional)
- Natural oil to lubricate molds
- Soap molds
- Plastic wrap
-
Step 1
Melt 1 cup of glycerine soap base slowly over low heat in the top portion of a double boiler. High temperatures can cause the soap base to form a soft, beaded consistency. Heat only until melted, and then remove and allow the soap to cool for about 10 minutes.
-
Step 2
Add 2 tbsp. of calamine lotion, 2 tbsp. of liquid glycerine and 1 tbsp. of French white clay. If desired, you may add 10 to 15 drops of another oil or essential oil to augment the healing qualities of the soap. Some skin soothing options include Vitamin E oil, caraway essential oil or clary sage essential oil.
-
Step 3
Oil your soap molds lightly with a natural oil ,such as olive oil or grapeseed oil. While still warm, spoon or pour your calamine soap into your molds. Once cool, carefully tap out your soap.
-
Step 4
Wrap your finished bars of soap tightly in plastic wrap, as glycerine based soaps can attract moisture and become soft. Store your soap in a dry location and use daily to soothe dry, irritated skin.
