1
Pick up a copy of the Bartender's Bible--or another bartending how-to book, if it has been a while since you last served drinks.
-
2
Decide how much time you can realistically devote to moonlighting as a bartender. If you work a full-time nine to five job, you may want to stick to just an occasional weekend.

3
Look for work as a bartender during the busy entertaining seasons, such as summer weddings and family reunions and winter holiday parties. Employers are more likely to hire you during these times than in slower seasons.
-
4
Work seasonally as a bartender. If you live near a ski mountain resort, consider working extra time as a bartender during the busy winter months and take the summers off. The same rule applies if you live near a busy summer destination, such as a beach or resort town.

Improve your chances of being hired as a bartender by taking a TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) class. This program is designed to teach employees how to serve alcohol responsibly, as well as how to recognize a patron who has had too much to drink.
