Massage therapy is one of oldest healing techniques known to man, using the simple act of touch to relieve muscle pain and stress, keep the skin young and healthy and even detoxify the body. Adding aromatherapy to your homemade massage oils will elevate your ordinary massage to another level. Plus, you can be sure the ingredients are fresh and pure.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Grapeseed oil
  • Glass bowl
  • Tea tree oil
  • Jasmine essential oil
  • Neroli essential oil
  • Dark glass bottle
Step1
Measure 8 tsp. of grapeseed oil into a glass bowl. You can choose from a number of carrier oils when making homemade massage oil; however grapeseed has virtually no scent and is available in most supermarkets. It is important to use metal and glass utensils when preparing oils, as plastic and wood are highly absorptive and can contaminate your finished oils.
Step2
Add 5 drops of tea tree oil, 3 drops of jasmine and 2 drops of neroli essential oils to the bowl. Tea tree oil, the main ingredient in your massage oil is widely known for its antiseptic and antifungal properties; but it can also be used to treat skin condition like burns, acne, cuts and eczema.
Step3
Mix the ingredients thoroughly and carefully pour your tea tree massage oil into a dark glass bottle. Be sure to protect your work surface from spills, as essential oils can damage delicate surfaces.
Step4
Keep your tea tree massage oil in a dark and cool location out of reach from children.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can make custom massage oils by combining 6 tsp. of an extra virgin or cold pressed carrier oil for every 8 drops of essential oil. Some possible carrier oils include coconut, olive, sesame, grapeseed, safflower, sunflower, wheat germ and peanut.
  • Warm your tea tree massage oil slightly in a double boiler before using for an extra touch.
  • Speak with an aromatherapist before using essential oil on pregnant women or young children.
