How to Make a Dragonfly Barrette

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

• 40 inches 18-gauge wire
• Long catch barrette
• 5 round beads
• 1 teardrop bead
• 1 bugle bead
• 375 seed beads

1. Slide a round bead to the middle of the wire. Twist the wire to hold it into place. Place another round bead onto the twisted wires. Slide it to the end. Twist the wire around it to hold the end bead in place.
2. Place 15 seed beads onto one wire. Push them down to meet the round bead. Bend the wire back at a 90-degree angle. Add 16 seed beads to the wire. Pull the wire to meet the end of the 15-bead strand. Continue until you have 5 strands of beads. This makes one dragonfly wing for the barrette.
3. Twist the wire at the end to hold the beads in place. Make one more wing with the same wire.
4. Repeat the Steps 1 through 3 to make two wings on the other side of the dragonfly. Bend the outside end of the wings to separate them.
5. Add the teardrop bead to the end of both wires. It needs to be flush with the bottom of the wings.
6. String 3 round beads and the bugle bead onto the wires.
7. Slide a seed bead onto the wires and pull the wires tight. Wrap the wires around the outside of the bead. Feed the wires through the bugle, both the round and teardrop beads.
8. Line up the hair barrette with the middle of the beaded dragonfly. Insert the wires through the holes in the barrette. Twist the wires tight to secure the barrette to the dragonfly.
