How to Perform a Fireman's Carry
A fireman's carry can allow you to help someone who is injured or unconscious. To perform a fireman's carry safely, you'll need to lift the person over both of your shoulders. To avoid hurting yourself and the person you're trying to help, you'll need to do it safely. Here's how.

Grab the person around the waist, and help bring him to a standing position, facing you. Once standing, keep one arm around their waist.

Grasp the person's wrist which is closest to your free hand. Lift the person's wrist above his head.

Kneel in front of the person, and pull him onto your shoulders. Do this by bringing the person's raised arm around your neck and over your shoulder. In this position, the injured person's legs will be over one shoulder. His arm and head will be over the other shoulder.

Reposition your hand from the person's waist to the back of his knee. Do this by bringing your hand between the person's knees. Do not wrap your arm around the injured person's legs. Do not grab the outer knee.

Use your legs to lift yourself with the injured person into a standing position.

Adjust the injured person's weight so that his body weight is comfortable across your shoulders.

Carry the injured person by moving forward.

Tips & Warnings
Do not try to use your back muscles to help you lift the injured person. Use the strength in your legs to avoid straining your back.
