Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Avoid lyrca and other form fitting fabrics. These fabrics are flattering on almost no one, clinging to the parts of our body we want to hide. If you're heavy set, it makes you look larger; if you're skinny it makes you look smaller. In addition, these fabrics often ride up or down, forcing the wearer to tug them back into position constantly.
Step2
Consider wearing natural fibers such as cotton and linen. These fabrics allow our skin to breathe, keeping us healthier than man-made fabrics. They also may be more environmentally friendly to manufacture.
Step3
Pay attention to wrinkling when wearing fabrics such as linens and cottons. While these fabrics are great, they can wrinkle in the knees, rear and back of shirts and jackets easily. Sometimes blending these fabrics with others will reduce wrinkles.
Step4
Choose the fabrics you wear based on what you'll be doing that day. If you work with children, choose easily washable, stain-resistant fabrics such as cotton blends. If you work in an office building, form-fitting fabrics may not be acceptable. If you're walking around town during the winter, suede and leather jackets, pants and shoes may be ruined. If you'll be sweating, avoid silks, since these can become stained easily.
Step5
Watch for fabrics that need you to wear something underneath either for modesty or for comfort. Examples include wool, angora and cashmere, since these fabrics often cause itching.
Step6
Be cautious with man-made fabrics such as polyester and nylon. Many of these fabrics look cheap no matter how much they cost, may not allow the wearer's skin to breathe and may not age well.
