Displaying a service flag is a fitting and heartfelt tribute to those who serve in our armed forces. Whether your family member serves as a reserve or a career military person, you can show your pride by placing a service flag at your home. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Display a service flag to honor immediate family members serving in the military during a current wartime event. Organizations which the service member is associated with may also display a service flag.
Step2
Review the measurements of the service flag to be sure it meets regulation. There is not a specific size for the service flag, but it does need to be slightly smaller than the United States Flag. The general ratio should be 1 to 1.9. This is particularly important if you already own a United States flag.
Step3
Fly the United States flag first on your flag pole, giving it the place of honor. You may fly your service flag below the National Flag.
Step4
Replace a traditional service flag with a gold star service flag to honor and memorialize a service member who died while on active duty status. Death does not need to occur as a result of combat to be eligible for this honor.
