Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rope or fishing line
  1. Step 1

Thread the line around the item you are wishing to tie. In fishing, this will most likely be your reel--or perhaps it will be the base knot for a fly you are tying.

  2. Step 2

Tie an overhand knot around the fishing line. This is simply going over the line, forming a loop and coming back through the loop. It's the base knot to tying shoes.

  3. Step 3

Create a second knot that is further down the line (toward the object you are securing). This knot is also a plain old overhand knot. You should now have two knots on the line.

  4. Step 4

Grip each end of the line and pull tight. You will now have two tightened knots on your line.

  5. Step 5

Remove any excess line by cutting it away. (If you're short a knife, biting the fishing line will work, though it will take a little effort).

  6. Step 6

Slide the knot closer to the object you are securing down the line until it is tight. You have now completed the arbor knot.
