There's no doubt that the shimmery, white landscape of winter can make for an extravagant wedding. Winter brides are afforded more flexibility when selecting a gown. You can consider long-sleeved or fur-trimmed dresses that a spring or summer bride would not be comfortable in during warmer weather. Read on to learn more.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Shop online and in bridal shops offering a wide selection because dresses especially suited for winter are more difficult to find than the very popular strapless and sleeveless options. Look in bridal magazines and catalogs in addition to bridal websites to get an idea of what strikes your eye. Take these ideas in to your favorite bridal shop, and see how they can accommodate your style.

  2. Step 2

Go for sparkle. Iridescent and other beading steal the show on a winter wedding dress, giving it an icicle effect. Against a pure white backdrop, this is a stunning effect. Try dresses with beaded patterns, both on the bodice and skirt. To get the desired effect, it doesn't have to be excessive. Even subtle accents will go a long way. In addition to the dress itself, you can incorporate sparkle into a head piece, veil, jewelry and shoes.

  3. Step 3

Keep yourself warm if you choose a style of dress more suited for summer temperatures. Accessorize with a white faux fur wrap, lacy shawl or velvet cape. Consider wearing a hood rather than a traditional head piece.

  4. Step 4

Consider different shades of white for a grander effect in winter. White-white is dynamic and reflects the sheen of winter snow. However, shades of ivory and champagne can be stunning, especially during an evening wedding lit by candlelight.

  5. Step 5

Work with a seamstress or dressmaker if you just can't find what you're looking for. He or she may have a great pattern that would make the perfect dress for you.

  6. Step 6

Accent your dress with winter florals. Use seasonal blooms such as poinsettias, magnolias, hydrangea and chrysanthemums. Try winter accents of white and silver, including sparkle-covered branches and greens.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid purchasing dresses online. It's difficult to actually see the dress in detail. You also don't know how customer service will be, or how long it will take to arrive.
