Think about the subject of your website. Write down all the keywords that you think people are most likely to use when searching for the information that you have. Get the opinion of other people such as friends, family and customers. Ask them what keywords they have used or think they would use to find your website.

Get a keyword tool that can give you more suggestions. Many free ones are available online. They will be able to tell you the keywords or phrases that are the most popular and likely to bring you the traffic you want.

Find out what keywords your competition uses. Look for the keyword tags in the source code to find these keywords. To view a website's keywords, while viewing the website in your browser click "Source" in your "View" menu. If that option is not available, then right click in a blank area of the website and click "View Source" from the menu that pops up.

Use a pay-per-click program with a small monthly budget if you can afford it. This will allow you to see how many impressions you are receiving from each keyword or phrase. After a few months, it should be obvious which search terms are the best for your website. Use this information to adjust your SEO keyword strategy to ensure people will be able to find your website through search engines.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Remember to use a keyword for your specific area or region if that applies to your product or service.

    • Don't only choose general keywords. Keywords that are more specific usually perform better.

    • Don't use trademarked or copyrighted keywords from your competitors' websites.

      1. Look for keywords with low to medium search results to reduce competition. 2. Pick keywords with high search results assuming more searches will improve the chances your article will found. 3. Choose keywords combining the above. These keywords have higher searches but lower competition.

One important thing that many people overlook is determining which keywords you can rank for. If you don't have experience getting #1 ranking for low competition keywords they you must start with low competition keywords to get your feet wet. It takes a lot of research and some experience finding low competition keywords that can make money. Spend some time researching this so you get a good grasp of how to find keywords you can rank for.

very helpful information. I agree that this information is especially helpful for blogs. I also agree with the comments in regards to hiring an SEO for your website. I have decided t do so only because it will save me some time to have them do it rather than me. But ...having this information is always helpful and helps me to have a better understanding regarding how SEO's do what they do.
