Visit a UPS station near you to inquire about UPS driver opportunities. Or visit the UPS website, click on "Contact UPS", then call the toll-free number under "Career Opportunities" or click the link to search for UPS driver jobs in your area.

Meet the physical requirements to become a UPS driver. UPS regulations state that drivers cannot sport beards, wear their hair past their collars or have any visible tattoos. You must also be able to lift a minimum of 70 lb. and be able to drive a vehicle with a manual transmission.

Enroll in the UPS Service Provider Training School. This is a 6-day course that teaches potential drivers how to operate a UPS package car and the electronic delivery information acquisition device (DIAD) used by all UPS drivers.

Pass all road and written tests and evaluations. These include maneuvering of the UPS package car as well as written tests about UPS and federal safety regulations and requirements. You must also pass rigorous evaluations from supervisors to become a UPS driver.

Complete a 90-day probationary period once you have become a UPS driver. You must maintain a safe driving record for three months once you begin as a UPS driver in order to successfully pass through your probation.

Consider starting at UPS in a part-time position such as loader or sorter and apply to a driver's position when available. Many UPS drivers start in part-time positions.
Being a UPS driver requires lifting, bending, carrying and stepping in and out of the package car many times throughout the day. Back and knee problems are common among UPS drivers.

Education does help to get you hired as a driver right away. Why? Because HR considers the educated as management potential. The company has a promote from within philosophy. I have been driving for many years, do 55 to 57hr/weeks, and I am overqualified. I chose not to go into management. I love my job.

No offense pattum, but I really don't see any correlation between college education and driving a truck to people's houses. If I were hiring I'd be more inclined to believe that the "more educated" of the two is coincidentally the more foolish of the two, for having wasted years of life and mountains of money on something that they don't intend to use. Education helps, I bet none of the above people like quackman21 or fairfax356 even have college degrees. No wonder it takes you 8 yrs to become a driver.
