Step 1
Choose fitted or shaped blouses and dresses. Hold the clothes up and look for seaming at the waist. On the hanger, the blouse or dress should be shaped like an hourglass, an X or a figure 8.
-
Step 2
Purchase structured jackets with seaming to create the perfect hourglass figure. Make sure the buttons can button and they don't compress your breasts. If you have a small torso, choose a jacket with one or two buttons. If you have a longer torso, choose one with three or four buttons.
-
Step 3
Look for straight skirts and pants with darts and zippers to continue the hourglass shape in the bottom half of the body.
-
Step 4
Get your clothes tailored for only a few dollars. If you have broad shoulders, but a slender frame you may need your clothes tailored so they fit in the shoulders, and cinch in at the waist. You also may need your skirts and pants tailored so they fit at the waist and in the hips, if you have larger hips.
-
Step 5
Consider choosing tops with a flair at the bottom that falls to the hips, if you have narrow hips or a boxy figure. These can artificially create hips, drawing attention to your waist. However if you already have hips, avoid this look.
-
Step 6
Buy your lingerie carefully. You can choose a push-up bra to emphasize your chest or even a corset to artificially create an hourglass figure, if you don't mind the discomfort.
