How to Rip Women's Jeans to Add Style

On display at any store you'll find high priced women's jeans that have been ripped and frayed. And sometimes, these ripped jeans cost more than designer jeans without holes. If you have a favorite pair of jeans on hand, you can create your own ripped style and still keep that feminine touch.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Jeans
    • Rough sandpaper
    • Knife
    • Bleach
      • 1

Determine where you want the jeans to be ripped. Take caution that your holes are in appropriate places or you might show more than you wanted.

      • 2

Rub a piece of sandpaper over the jeans in the area you want the hole. Pick sandpaper that's extra rough so you get the full effect.

      • 3

Create a slit in the area where you want the hole. Do this by rubbing the blade of a knife over the area. Continue slitting that area until you begin to see the edges fray.

      • 4

Continue rubbing the jeans with sandpaper and slitting new holes until you're satisfied with the look. Typically, each pair of jeans should have three to seven holes.

      • 5

Wash your jeans on a regular cycle. Add a little bit of bleach to give your jeans an aged look. Throw your jeans in the dryer to complete the process. When you allow your jeans to tumble dry instead of line dry, you maximize the look of the fray.

      • 6

Try on your jeans and make sure you have the look you want. If you find a hole isn't what you expected, you can always patch it up for a cute style.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Expect your jeans to wear out more quickly once you rip them. The ripped look gives you a great style, but it also compromises the integrity of the denim.
