How to Use Beach Gear in Interior Decoration

If you love summer and the beach or just like the idea of decorating in a fun, funky way, use beach gear in interior decoration. Surfboards, beach towels, sand pails, even fishing gear can all be used as great accessories for many rooms in your home.

Things You’ll Need:

• Surfboard
• Sand pails
• Beach towels
• Pillows
• Beach blanket
• Beach chair
• L-brackets
• Screws
• Needle and thread or sewing machine

1. Decorate a teenager's bedroom with a surfer's theme. Use a surfboard as a headboard or hang it as a wall decoration.
2. Sew beach towels together for a great looking bedspread. You can also make pillow covers out of beach towels. Just fold the towel in half and sew the sides together
3. Create a beach play area in a child's room by placing a beach blanket on the floor. Add a low sand chair or child-sized beach chair on the blanket. Complete the area with sand pails holding crayons, blocks and other small toys and beach bags full of favorite books, coloring books and drawing paper.
4. Cut a surfboard in half lengthwise and mount the two halves to a wall using
   L-brackets to make great surfboard shelves.
5. Measure and mark a surfboard into feet and inches to use as a whimsical growth chart in a child's room.
6. Place a beach chair in the corner of a bedroom to make a cozy reading area for a beach-loving teenager or adult.
7. Use a sand pail to hold all of your kitchen utensils. They also make great catch all containers for bathrooms and children's rooms.

Tips & Warnings

• Beach towels make great window treatments. Simply fold the top of the towel over two inches and sew along the bottom of the folded area to make a pocket for the curtain rod.
• Cut cane-fishing poles into curtain rods. Canoe paddles also make excellent curtain rods.
• Fill beach pails with potting soil to make beach inspired flowerpots.
