Step 1
Look for age appropriate beach gear and toys. To avoid frustration for both the parents and the kids, check the age recommendations for the gear that you wish to purchase.
-
Step 2
Buy beach gear that has appropriate sun protection for your kids. Umbrellas, tents, canopies and clothing all provide protection from the sun. In addition, some items, such as sun umbrellas and swimsuits, have SPF (sun protection factor) constructed in the fabric.
-
Step 3
Consider purchasing beach gear to keep your kids safe in and around the ocean water. For small kids, use water wings or floats. Be sure to follow all instructions that accompany water safety gear and that you use the appropriate safety gear for your kids.
-
Step 4
Pick easy to transport gear for use at the beach. Shop for lightweight gear that's easy to pack and carry to the beach.
-
Step 5
Think about buying beach gear made of high quality materials. You'll want the gear you purchase to withstand your children's active behaviors. In addition, when you purchase durable beach gear, you and your family will enjoy beach activities for more than one season.
-
Step 6
Check the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website for possible recalls on beach gear for kids. (See link in Resources.) You never want to purchase beach gear recalled by the CPSC, so be sure to verify that beach gear you wish to purchase is not on the recall list.
